Great Idea:
This motivates boys to sing more than anything I've seen! Using a poster board, hand held flag, black yarn and a black marker fashion a flagpole. Draw your flagpole on the poster board. Thread the yarn through two small holes, one at the top of the flagpole the other a bit up from the bottom (so the flag's starting point isn't below the bottom of the flagpole). Then remove the stick from the flag and attach it to the loop of yarn on the front of the poster board. The flag is raised using the black loop of yarn that can be adjusted on the back side of the poster board. The black yarn blends in with the black flagpole.
As their voices become stronger, raise the flag. This helps them see when you think they are singing their best, while avoiding any competitive spirit. When practicing for the Annual Sacrament Program, a chorister can stand at the back of the chapel and use this flag raising poster for feedback and encouragment.
Great Idea: When primary choristers meet together during stake primary board meeting, let each chorister chose 1 of the 8 new songs. Our stake has 8 wards, so each chorister developed the helps/game/visuals for the song they chose. After making 7 additional copies/packets, the choristers traded the song helps amongst themselves. No more straining your brain :) Remember we've been encouraged to use the helps/visuals given in the Friend Magazine, GAK and other church resources.
