These are not necessarily new ideas, but ways to help you implement the recommended weekly sharing time principles and ideas from the monthly Friend's Sharing Time Idea page and the 2008 Outline for Sharing Time and the Children's Sacrament Meeting Presentation.

The August Friend also suggests: Display GAK 601 (Baptism) and 602 (The Gift of the Holy Ghost). Review the ordinances of baptism, confirmation, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Provide each child with a copy of the baptism and confirmation circle found on page 14. Allow them time to complete the activity. Emphasize that these ordinances are linked together and that the circle will help them remember the importance of both experiences.

I will show my faith by being baptized and confirmed and keeping my baptismal covenants.

Scripture study, family prayer, and family home evening can strengthen my family.

For junior primary show pictures of family prayer, scripture study and family home evening.
For senior primary read the two scriptures out loud together - (print them from the link below, don't read from their scriptures) - and guess who said each. (Nephi, the Lord) Nephi's family had scripture study!

Mix up and give the children parts of family home evening word strips to hold or hang with yarn and let others take turns putting them in the correct order.

To download printable pages for Sharing Time suggestion #2 in the May Friend, click on the links below. Help the children understand their obligation to honor and obey and how that strengthens their family. The Father is to preside, provide, and protect. The Mother is to nurture.

For junior primary let them find and match the words that start with p with the big P paper. Discuss what the 3 p words (preside, provide, protect) mean. Match the word nurture with the big N paper and ask what they think nurture means and how their mothers nurture them. Nurture is only one word but includes everything! You could also use a picture of a mother and father or bring pictures from the Friend that show nurturing to have them match or talk about, etc.. Each member of the family is important.

For senior primary give them copies of the Proclamation on the Family. Have them number the paragraphs and then in paragraphs 6 & 7 search out the 3 words (that start with a p) describing a Father's divine role and the word describing a Mother's role. What a great lesson for Mother's Day Sunday.

How can I improve my prayers?

Since the children have been learning the song, "If the Savior Stood Beside Me", strengthening our personal relationship with God came to my mind. I like the suggestions Elder Joseph B. Worthlin gave for improving our prayers.

Jesus Christ lives today. He will come again.

Post these around the room. Ask the children to look at the gospel standards and think about how they lived one of them during the week or how they plan to live it next week. Let a child select a gospel standard and share how they lived it.

After printing the file above, fold the piece of paper in half, like a book. On the book cover of each scripture write the book of scripture it came from (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, or Doctrine & Covenants) or print this file so the children can match the book cover to the scripture.

You could hand the other 10 of these out to classes and have them search for D&C scriptures that teach the standards.

One idea is to cut pictures out of the Friend magazine that show the gospel standard or doesn't show the gospel standard and have the children choose the picture that matches the gospel standard you read to them out loud.

Here is a Finger Play to use with Junior primary from Manual 1 Lesson 41:

"...the most High means Heavenly Father. Emphasize that every person on the earth is a child of Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father knows us and loves us. ...Heavenly Father is the father of our spirits, so we can grow to be like him.

...Explain that Heavenly Father is the king of heaven and earth. Because we are his children, we are princes and princesses. Make a simple crown for each child and write the words I am a child of God on each crown. Let the children color the crown."

Also: You probably noticed this in your study also, but the premortal world in Preach My Gospel is called the Pre-Earth Life. I think it is helpful for children to know that pre means before and then I would explain both of these terms to help them understand. Mortal has to do with the physical body. Pre-Earth has to do with the where - telling us there was a place we lived before we were born on this earth.

This quote from the True To The Faith book helps illuminate the 2008 primary theme. It is under the Topic God the Father, The Father of Our Spirits.

"One of life's great questions is "Who am I?" A beloved Primary song helps even little children answer this question. We sing, "I am a child of God, and he has sent me here." The knowledge that we are children of God provides strength, comfort, and hope.

You are a literal child of God, spiritually begotten in the premortal life. As His child, you can be assured that you have divine, eternal potential and that He will help you in your sincere efforts to reach that potential."

How wonderful to help the children at this early age better understand who they are and what they can become!
