  General Conference - October 2007 Date: 10/11/2007
Do you have a conference tradition in your family?

Which talk really touched you?

What are your plans to implement the messages we heard?

Some of my favorites from from 2006 and 2007 were The Miracle of the Holy Bible and Tender Mercies.

Which talks will be at the top of your list to read?

Why?

  Family Scripture Reading Date: 10/12/2007
From: Mom of Five
We use the church's scripture readers some days. Most of the time we read straight from the scriptures.

Lately we use Preach My Gospel. We tell every child a scripture reference to find before we begin reading. They read it out loud, when the time comes. We read and talk about the other text also.

Our youngest two can't read yet, so they open a book of scripture and pretend like they are reading. They repeat the phrase, after we say it. The little ones like being able to take part.

It is most important to be flexible. What works today, may not work next month. Change it to suit the children. Add a song, if they are sleepy. Let discussion help them discover and understand the gospel.

  Apostles & Prophets Date: 11/03/2007
From: Anonymous
I remember my dad used to pay a quarter for every apostle we could name, while we sat in the tabernacle waiting for conference. (Only on Saturday, of course!) Now while we are at home between conference sessions our children have contests to see who can match the latter-day apostles and prophets fastest from your ldsgreats main page. This is also fun as a Family Night Game! My children and husband usually have a much faster time than me - so I stay humble ;)
  Home and Family Date: 11/03/2007
From: J.
Sister Beck's talk rang true for me. I realized that I need to refocus my efforts on my family and home. Then Elder Oaks' talk gave me the feeling that I need to work on getting back to a traditional family mealtime.
Microscope for Object Lesson Date: 03/31/2008
From: Teacher
I used a microscope as an object lesson about recognizing the evidence of God's kindness in our lives. That went with the talk from Elder Eyring, October 2007. You could also use a microscope to talk about how we should examine our own lives to see how they are affecting others.
Disconnect - Object Lesson Date: 03/31/2008
From: Teacher
I used a cd/radio player to talk about how "Sometimes, in our earthly impatience, we may lose sight of the Lord’s precious promises and disconnect our obedience from the fulfillment of these promises." from Spencer J. Condie's last conference talk, with the key word being "disconnect". Just have an uplifting song playing and then disconnect either from the outlet or the cord from the cd player. This also shows that when we distance ourselves from the power and strength that God offers us we walk away from the promised blessings also.
